October Newsletter

It’s officially spooky season, and we don’t want to scare you too much, but we have an important announcement to make.

In November we will be celebrating our 2nd year here in Lincoln! During this time we have managed to fight against the rising tides of inflation.

However, as of 11/1/2026, we will be raising our prices so that we can continue providing the same quality time, products and services that you’ve come to expect from us.

Dogs up to 20 lbs will see a $5 increase

Dogs 21-50 lbs can expect an increase of $7.50

Dogs 51-75 lbs can expect a $10 increase

Dogs 76 lbs-100 lbs can expect a $15 increase

Dogs over 100 lbs can expect a $20 increase

If you have already booked your November and December appointments, we will honor your existing price until January 1st, 2027.

(If you reschedule your existing appointment, it will be at the new price, as it will be counted as a new appointment. )

We know we can count on you to understand and appreciate you!

Hershey Recap

As most of you know, the entire Underdogs team went to one of the country’s largest grooming expos in Hershey Pennsylvania. We stayed VERY busy, taking in at least 30 hours each of hands on education, taught by the industry’s leading experts, and we came away with some new certifications we will definitely be showing off when they arrive in the mail!

We took classes regarding Geriatric Safety, Creative Grooming, Skin and Coat issues and so much more. We are so proud to be able to stay at the leading edge of modern grooming.

We also returned with a new line of specialty Skin Relief products from Iv San Bernard, so definitely let us know if you have skin and coat concerns that you’d like to see addressed. We always see allergy flares and dry skin at this time of year as everything becomes a bit more dusty.

Seasonal Concerns:

During the fall we tend to see a rise in two unwanted types of friends: Skunks and Ticks.

Those skunks that were out partying in March have now become parents, and they’re looking for somewhere safe to raise those children. Now is a great time to fix that little hole in the fence, make sure your deck is secured underneath, and everytime you let your dog out, especially in the early mornings, turn on the lights, make a bit of a ruckus to alert any lurking stinkbombs that it’s time to make themselves scarce.

As a reminder we do not treat skunked dogs out of respect for our neighbors. That smell travels far and wide, and no one wants their wedding cake or their dry cleaning to smell like skunk!

It may also be tempting to back off of Flea and Tick Preventatives, but not yet! As the weather cools, ticks are doing their best to find their own private Florida for the winter, so make sure they’re protected.

Halloween Safety Tips:

Halloween is one of those holidays where lots of dogs escape and get lost, with all the door opening and closing, parties etc, it’s easy for your furry friend to make an escape.

It can also be a pretty stressful evening with repeated knocks at the door or the doorbell ringing repeatedly. If you know your dog will not enjoy this sort of activity, you have our permission to put a bowl of candy outside or just turn your porch light off and sit the whole thing out, enjoying a movie on the couch instead.

Also, costumes can be pretty disorienting and unusual for a dog. Even very friendly dogs might not have seen anyone in a hockey mask before, and their response might be less than favorable so now is a great time to do some practice runs, or teach them that every time the doorbell rings, if they go to their bed they get a yummy treat.

And this one is obvious, but we have to say it, don’t leave the chocolate where your dog can get to it. Drop it off at 184 Front St and we will dispose of it for you. Just another service we provide.

Trunk or Treat Event:

If you are looking for a dog friendly activity to do with your dog, Veterinary East Greenwich Hospital is hosting a Trunk or Treat and we will be there with treats for them, and for humans too! We’d love to see you there!

Now, without further ado, everyone’s favorite monthly feature:

Employee of The Month!

We know you have probably heard of a dog grooming salon with their very own weather-dog, but after this last winter we knew we needed someone reliable that we could count on. Obi is a very smart, very observant little guy. He completed a few rounds of Fear Free Programs, and went from practically untouchable to a dog who enjoys the process of being groomed. Okay maybe “enjoys” is a bit of an overstatement, but he doesn’t hate it. We just needed to earn a little trust first and we think that just further supports what an intelligent guy he is. He is also very sensitive, and he pays close attention to the weather, alerting us to changes in barometric pressure, and pretty much anything else that happens, Obi notices and notifies.

He braved this latest storm to report on the status directly to you as well, making sure that we stayed home and didn’t take unnecesary risks. We are so relieved to have him as part of the team as we move into winter weather so we never have to guess what’s coming. Thank you Obi!!
